Info on Music Folder

Hi Lotte,
I'm not sure if you were successful with trying out a music folder. Thought I'd give you some info on BFVietnam's version. The music that came with the game allowed you and co-players on other pc's to hear when in the same vehicle(EA used bik. files for the music). EA also put in a separate music folder for the user to simply drop their own mp3 music, the drawback to this was that only you could hear and no one else in the vehicle. Now it would be great if other players in the vehicle could hear your selected music. Just thought I'd give you some info.....Brew67

Yes of course only the player can hear his own (purchased) music.
It's a problem to transfer a bunch of - lets say 10 files each 5 megabytes - via internet from one to thirtytwo players.
There are some restrictions like copyrights (wtf?), bandwith (pah!), framerate (ehm...?) and some more.
EoD never was mentioned to be a file sharing tool.

Oh dear! :thumbup:

But meanwhile this project is discontinued cause Unity doesn't allow to stream music from local folders anymore.
Maybe it's a bug or cause of license restrictions, I don't know and there are a lot of disussions but no reply from Unity. :thumbdown:

Info on music folder

Hi Lotte,
Well that's a bummer. It's to bad that a game couldn't have an empty shared (music) folder and allow an individual at their own discretion to drop in their own music. As for copyrights, I guess the way I see it, it would be no different than if someone had friends and family over for a party or get together and they were listening to music being played on the cd player. Unless of course you were charging people money for profit. It's ridiculous. Recently at my work (auto parts retail) they sent a memo about music in the store, only a radio is allowed, no cd's, ipods, or other recorded music, due to copyright infringement.

I totaly agree, it's moronic with the copyrights exaggeration.
Perhaps I can understand that it's not allowed to transfer the music to other players though you can copy them via MC, CD or whatever.
But not hearing my own music files? Why???

I've tested some differnt ways to code playing music from local folders, but all I've got was an error message like WAV, MP3, OGG ... can't be streamed with Unity.
The music gets loaded but it's filename is null and the stream drops the FPS from 250 to <10.
I found some forum discussions and no one had a solution but they talked about copyright restrictions...

Another solution was to stream audio websites like with a small plugin. This worked fine - but again it's not allowed.

So the only solution is to start your music in an external player.

Once EoD has a million players the game studio will be able to purchase some original soundtrack licenses.
And if it get's as famous as BF1942 or Minecraft we will engage the Stones or The Grandmamas & The Grandpapas for some new titles :wacko:

Meanwhile we use a website wich can do whatever they want
